Prince Harry has previously shared the deeply personal prayer Meghan Markle made during her first visit to Princess Diana’s gravesite, a moment that may hold renewed significance if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex return to Britain this summer.
The couple are reportedly expected to travel to the UK with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, marking the youngsters’ first visit to Britain in more than four years.
Their trip is expected to coincide with Prince Harry’s appearances marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
A Possible Return to Princess Diana’s Resting Place
With Harry expected to be in Britain, many royal watchers believe the family could also revisit Princess Diana’s final resting place at Althorp House, the Spencer family estate.
Meghan and the children have not returned to the UK since 2022, following the couple’s departure from royal duties and their widely discussed interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Princess Diana is buried on a private island within the grounds of Althorp House, the family estate now owned by her brother, Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer.
According to People, Althorp House will be closed to visitors on July 10 and July 11, leading some fans to speculate that Harry and Meghan may use that opportunity to privately visit Diana’s grave.
Harry’s Emotional Memory from Spare
Prince Harry reflected on his most recent visit to his mother’s grave in his memoir, Spare, recalling the emotional experience he shared with Meghan during their 2022 visit.
He explained that Charles Spencer had to give them “a little shove” through the muddy ground before they boarded a small boat that carried them across to the island where Princess Diana is buried.
The gravesite remains closed to the general public.
“No visit to this place was ever easy, but this one… twenty-fifth anniversary,” Prince Harry wrote.
“And Meg’s first time.
At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum.”
Harry described laying flowers at his mother’s grave before quietly speaking to her in his thoughTS.
“We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first.
I placed flowers on the grave.
Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity,” he continued.
He then stepped away to give Meghan time alone.
“Feeling that Meg might also want a moment, I went around the hedge, scanned the pond.
When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone.”
When the couple walked back together, Harry asked what she had prayed for.
“I asked, as we walked back to the boat, what she’d prayed for,” Prince Harry wrote.
“Clarity, she said.
And guidance,” revealing that her prayer mirrored his own without either of them knowing.
Accommodation and Security Questions Remain
Reports have suggested that King Charles has offered accommodation for Harry, Meghan, and their children during the visit, although it has not been confirmed whether the Sussexes have accepted the invitation.
Security, however, remains a separate issue.
It is understood that no additional security arrangements have been offered, as responsibility for such decisions rests with the UK Home Office.
Security concerns have long been one of the main reasons Harry has said he feels unable to bring his family back to Britain regularly.
Speaking previously about the issue, Harry said:
“The U.K.
is my home.
The U.K.
is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States.”
“That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K.
soil.”
Hope for a Family Reconciliation
Prince Harry has also spoken openly about his wish to repair relations with the Royal Family, particularly following King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.
In an interview with the BBC, he said he hoped reconciliation would eventually be possible.
“There’s no point continuing to fight anymore; life is precious.
I don’t know how much longer my father has.
He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”
As anticipation builds over the Sussexes’ reported summer visit, many royal followers will be watching closely to see whether the trip goes ahead—and whether it could include not only a deeply personal visit to Princess Diana’s grave but also a long-awaited meeting between Prince Harry and King Charles.
