After months of rumors and growing speculation, a source close to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has reportedly confirmed a significant and unexpected decision: Harry plans to return to the UK this summer with Meghan, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet.
According to reports, the Sussex family is expected to travel from their home in Montecito, California, to Birmingham in mid-July to participate in Harry’s Invictus Games “One Year To Go” evenTS. However, sources indicate there are currently no plans for the family to permanently relocate to Britain.
A source explained that Harry has felt deep sadness about being unable to bring his wife and children back to his homeland.
“It’s been a real point of great sadness – for Harry especially – that he’s been unable to bring his wife and kids back to the UK safely to reconnect with friends and family, but anyone would understand his desire to put their safety first.”
The source added:
“He would love to introduce the children to his wider family, to show them the UK, where he grew up – his homeland.
That would be a natural thing for any parent.”
Meghan’s First Major UK Visit in Years
Although Harry has returned to Britain several times since stepping away from royal duties in 2020, Meghan and the children have rarely accompanied him.
In fact, Meghan has not made a significant public visit to the UK since September 2022, when she and Harry were already in the country for work engagements before the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The family’s only visit to Britain with Archie and Lilibet occurred during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
The couple’s relationship with Britain has not always been straightforward.
During Jubilee events, some members of the public openly booed Harry and Meghan, highlighting the mixed public reaction they have often faced.
Despite this history, sources insist Meghan has no concerns about returning.
“Meghan’s strong and much more resilient than people give her credit for – she’s had to grow the thickest of skin to deal with the daily barrage of unnecessary and frankly, dangerous, hate that is spread about her.”
The source continued:
“… But Meghan loves the UK and knows that the vast, vast majority of people are reasonable, rational and good.”
Reconnecting with Family
The trip could also provide an opportunity for Harry’s children to reconnect with members of the royal family.
While Archie spent much of his infancy in Britain, Lilibet was born in the United States and has only visited the UK once.
That same 2022 visit was also the last time King Charles reportedly saw his grandchildren in person.
In recent years, Harry has appeared increasingly interested in rebuilding parts of his relationship with his father, particularly following the King’s cancer diagnosis.
Despite years of public family tensions, including revelations made during the Oprah interview, the Netflix series, and Harry’s memoir Spare, there have been small signs of renewed contact.
One example came in September when Harry and King Charles reportedly held a brief reunion at Clarence House after nearly 18 months without seeing one another.
Security Remains the Key Issue
For Harry, security has always been the main obstacle preventing Meghan and the children from returning to Britain.
In 2025, he lost a legal appeal seeking to restore his taxpayer-funded police protection, which had been replaced with a customized security arrangement after he stepped back as a working royal.
Following the court ruling, Harry described the outcome as an:
“establishment stitch-up.”
Sources now suggest that if the Sussex family is indeed traveling to Britain, Harry must feel satisfied with the security measures in place.
“There are individuals and groups that wish to do him and his family harm.
Whether you like them or not, no sane person would want anything to happen to him, his wife or their kids.”

“… You can be assured that if they are coming [to Britain], then he’s satisfied that the conditions have been met to keep them all as safe as possible.”
What Has Changed?
The decision has raised questions because Harry previously stated during a BBC interview:
“I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.”
He also claimed that he could:
“only come to the UK safely”
if invited by the King and included under royal protection arrangemenTS.
In late 2024, Britain’s Home Office reportedly agreed to review Harry’s security situation despite his court defeat, though no public conclusions from that review have been released.
As a result, observers believe one of two things may have happened: either Harry’s security arrangements have improved sufficiently to satisfy his concerns, or a royal invitation has been extended behind the scenes.
Whatever the reason, the planned trip appears to mark a significant step for Harry, Meghan, and their children, potentially opening the door to renewed connections with Britain and the royal family after years of distance and uncertainty.
