PART 3: “Pack your things, Cameron. The only thing you’ll be inheriting tonight is an eviction notice.”

The warm evening breeze rustled through the white roses lining the terrace, but the air in the garden had turned subzero.

Cameron scrambled to his feet, his hands shaking as he stared at the signed document resting under the amber candlelight of his father’s birthday cake.

The immaculate suit that had defined his arrogant authority now looked like a costume worn by a man who had forgotten he was just an employee in a company he didn’t own.

“Dad, you can’t do this,” Cameron stammered, his voice losing its polished edge and devolving into a panicked whine.

“I’m your only son! I’ve spent the last ten years running the regional developments! This… this nurse—she doesn’t know anything about real estate!”

William sat back down slowly, his gaze heavy with profound disappointment.

“She knows what loyalty is, Cameron.

She knows what integrity means,” William said, his voice ringing with quiet, absolute authority.

“And three years ago, when I collapsed in the hospital corridor following a board meeting, it wasn’t my son who stayed by my side for twelve hours monitoring my vitals.

It was Ariana.

While you were out entertaining business associates in Paris, she was saving my life.”

Margaret slumped heavily into a wrought-iron chair, her jeweled hands trembling as she looked at Ariana with sudden, sickening realization.

The socialite matriarch had spent years treating her daughter-in-law like a charity case, only to discover that Ariana had been holding the keys to the entire family fortune.

“Ariana, darling, please,” Margaret choked out, forcing a desperate, trembling smile to her lips.

“This is just a family misunderstanding.

We were only joking about the dress—family teasing, you know how it is.

We can fix this—”

“Save your breath, Margaret,” Ariana interrupted, her voice entirely devoid of warmth.

“You spent the entire evening mocking a woman you thought had nowhere to go.

Turns out, I was just waiting for the right moment to show you the door.”

Natalie backed away slowly toward the garden gate, the diamonds at her throat catching the moonlight as she realized the golden parachute she had planned to latch onto had just burst into flames.

“Cameron, I think I should go—” Natalie muttered, turning on her heel.

“Don’t go anywhere, Miss Croft,” a sharp, calm voice echoed from the entrance of the garden path.

Two corporate security guards stepped forward, blocking the exit.

Behind them walked Jonathan Vance, the senior legal counsel for the estate, carrying a thick leather briefcase.

“Mr. Cameron Vale and Miss Natalie Croft,” Jonathan announced smoothly, stepping up to the terrace.

“Pursuant to the forensic audit completed this morning under the direct authority of the primary trust holder, Ms.

Ariana Vale, both of you are officially served with notice for corporate embezzlement, misuse of subsidiary accounts, and misappropriation of company funds to finance personal travel and luxury acquisitions.”

Cameron’s jaw dropped.

He looked wildly between his lawyer and his father.

“Embezzlement? What are you talking about? Those were operational expenses!”

“Those were first-class flights to Paris and five-star hotel suites billed to the Marlowe-Vale philanthropic fund,” Jonathan corrected, snapping open a folder to reveal itemized receipTS. “The police have already been notified.

Your corporate cards have been locked, your office access has been revoked, and your personal accounts associated with the enterprise are currently frozen.”

The sixty guests—the very elite who had watched Cameron humiliate his wife just minutes earlier—were now desperately trying to avoid eye contact, quietly slipping away toward their cars to ensure their names were never associated with the sinking ship of the Vale empire.

Cameron fell to his knees beside the table, his pristine suit jacket dragging in the spilled red wine that still stained the stone floor.

He looked up at Ariana, his eyes wide with a desperate, pleading terror.

“Ariana… please,” he whispered, tears finally spilling over his lashes.

“We have Ethan.

Think of our son.

You can’t throw me out.

I’m your husband.”

Ariana looked down at him, her expression as unyielding as marble.

She reached down, picked up her small boy, and settled him securely against her hip, shielding him from the ugly wreckage of his father’s collapse.

“You stopped being a husband the moment you decided cruelty was a better companion than love,” Ariana said softly.

“You wanted a woman who would stand quietly behind you while you tore everything down.

Instead, you built a stage for your own undoing.”

She turned to William, offering a gentle, genuine smile.

“Shall we cut the cake, William? I think we have a lot to celebrate.”

“Whenever you’re ready, my dear,” William replied, standing up and offering her his arm.

As the security guards hauled Cameron away, his frantic cries fading into the quiet Chicago night, Ariana walked past the ruins of a broken marriage and into a future where no one would ever make her stand behind them again.
