Elon Musk’s recent Beijing trip was a family affair.
The Tesla CEO, 54, was filmed attending Donald Trump’s summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, May 14, alongside his son X Æ A-Xii, 6, whom he shares with ex Grimes.
In a video obtained by CBS News, the 6-year-old could be seen wearing a light blue vest with green embroidery as he accompanied his father to the high-level business meeting, which was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The little boy could be seen running after his dad while holding what appeared to be a brown over-the-shoulder bag. Musk held his son’s hand as they entered the meeting, which also included top U.S. tech executives like Apple CEO Tim Cook and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.
X Æ A-Xii is one of Musk’s 14 children. He also shares daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, 4, and son Techno Mechanicus, 3, with Grimes.
The “Genesis” singer, 38, previously advocated for her son’s life to remain private during Musk’s role with the Department of Government Efficiency in the early days of Trump’s second term, after the SpaceX founder took him to the Oval Office on Feb. 11, 2025, to witness Trump sign an executive order.
Grimes later revealed that she was unaware that her son would have such a public moment and only learned about the visit through a post on X.
“He should not be in public like this,” the singer wrote on X. “I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”
Trump invited Musk and other U.S. executives to join his trip to China as he and Xi discussed trade, artificial intelligence, export controls, Taiwan and the Iran war, according to CNBC.
The White House shared photos of the meeting in a post on X and said, “The two sides discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation between countries, including expanding market access for American businesses into China and increasing Chinese investment.”
The sentiment appeared to be mutual as the Chinese president noted during the meeting that the door to business in China will “open wider,” according to CNBC, which cited state-backed Chinese newspaper Xinhua.
“Xi said China welcomes the United States to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with China, and expressed belief that U.S. companies will enjoy even broader prospects in China,” Xinhua reported, per CNBC.
“The U.S. entrepreneurs said that they attach great importance to the Chinese market, and hope to deepen their business operations in China and strengthen cooperation with China,” the newspaper added.

Huang, who was one of the CEOs to attend the meeting, called it “one of the most important summits in human history,” according to CNBC.
“Today’s morning ceremony was very uplifting,” he told reporters of the summit, per CNBC. “President Xi was very inspiring, very welcoming, and President Trump was very inspiring and very welcoming.”
