Sam Altman’s ChatGPT is still better than Elon Musk’s Grok

As artificial intelligence becomes an important part of our professional lives, several government employees in Washington are quietly choosing Gemini and ChatGPT instead of Grok, according to Reuters. Despite the big promises from Elon Musk’s xAI and the excitement around SpaceX’s upcoming IPO, Grok probably failed to gain popularity inside the US government’s offices.

Reuters highlighted how government inventory records noted over 400 publicly identified examples of AI use across federal agencies. Reportedly, only three of these had Grok or xAI technology mentioned. While OpenAI’s ChatGPT and related Microsoft tools were mentioned in 234 use cases. Moreover, Google’s Gemini and other Alphabet products appeared in 33 cases, and Anthropic’s Claude was listed in 26 examples.

The US government employees used AI systems for advanced and simple tasks. Some agencies used them to draft emails, summarise documents and manage social media posts. Notably, others relied on AI use for engineering analysis, fraud detection, coding and scientific research.

It has reported that xAI offered Grok to federal agencies for a symbolic price of 42 cents per agency over several months. Moreover, the report notes such pricing is common in the industry because companies hope agencies will later sign expensive long-term contracts. However, the lower price could not turn out to be impactful for wide adoption.

The report mentions many government workers prefer rival tools because they are more reliable, advanced and better suited for government work.

Musk’s xAI is trying hard to expand its reach across the world. The company has reportedly pursued necessary federal security certifications, and it continues to bid for government contracts. However, a recent proposal from the firm linked to the Department of Veterans Affairs failed to get a contract since it could not meet the requirements.
